As the most representative cultural relics bequeathed by the ancestors of Zhuang People in ancient China, the Zuojiang Huashan Rock Art Cultural Landscape boasts its outstanding universal value necessary to be inscribed on the World Heritage List. The request for World Cultural Heritage will not only spread the Huashan Culture to the world, but also provide the landscape with better conservation. The C-E translation of nomination files is a key part of the process of request and translators act as a bridge between two different languages and cultures. However, research has rarely undertaken on C-E translation of the files used to request for World Cultural Heritage in China. This report is based on the C-E translation project of nomination files of Zuojiang Huashan Rock Art Cultural Landscape to request for World Cultural Heritage. The author bases her systematic analysis of the translation process on Newmark's theory of Communicative Translation(CT)and Semantic Translation(ST),and works out proper translation strategies to this type of texts. The report first describes the translation project,pre-translation preparation done by the author and the whole translation process.According to Newmark's translation theory, the author classifies the nomination files as the informative text, therefore CT should be taken as the principal translation method while ST as the supplementary.Analyzing several typical cases in the nomination files, the report later explored how to apply Newmark's theory to C-E translation of the files and proposes several translation strategies such as literal and free translation, addition and omission, conversion, structural transformation, combination and division,as well as information restructuring at lexical, syntactic and textual levels respectively. The summary and the author's reflection are presented in the last chapter. It is hoped that the report could serve as a reference for the future translation of similar texts.
