Report On The Translation Of An Excerpt Of The Rise And Fall Of American Growth(Chapter 3)

The present translation report is composed of two parts:an English-Chinese translation of the selected chapter from The Rise and Fall of American Growth:The US Standard of Livingsince the Civil War,a book by Robert J Gordon,an economist and professor of Northwestern University,and a critical commentary on the problems and difficulties that the translator has come across when executing the project,as well as her solutions to them by drawing on Peter Newmark's theory of text typology and communicative translation.Also included in the report is a copy of the source text,which runs to about 10,000 English words in length.The commentary contains five sections.Section one introduces the background and significance of the translation project.Section two analyzes stylisics features of the selected source text.Section three discusses the translation theory and techniques adopted.Section four discusses the translation problems encountered and solutions to them.Section five sums up the findings the translator has made in executing the project and points out the deficiencies and inadequacies she feels about the translation done,so as to induce improvement in the future.
