A Report On The Computer-aided E-C Translation Of National Standards For Financial Literacy

This is a report on the computer-aided E-C translation of National Standards for Financial Literacy.The report focuses on computer-aided translation issues in the following four areas: the first is the translation strategies for financial texts,the second is the application of functional equivalence theory in computer-aided translation practice,the third is the advantages of computer-aided translation in conducting translation project,and the fourth is the necessity and efficiency to combine human translation and computer-aided translation.This report describes the process of using computer-aided translation tools to translate the National Standards for Financial Literacy in detail.By analyzing typical translation cases of applying functional equivalence theory in the process of memoQ translation,the author verifies the guiding role of functional equivalence theory in computer-aided translation practice,sums up the advantages and values of computer-aided translation tools represented by memoQ in the practice of non-literary translation,and points out the translation-related problems of using computer-aided translation tools while offering some suggestions.Through this translation experience,the author has found that compared with human translation,the main advantages of computer-aided translation tools represented by memoQ lie in automatic filling,translation memory,terminology management,pre-translation,format consistency and real-time storage.The major disadvantages are manifested in the lack of discourse coherence of the target texts—computer-aided translation tools are liable to make literal equivalence that misses contextual information.Therefore,in order to produce target texts of high quality,it is necessary for the translators to make a thorough analysis of the source texts before translating,and in particular,conduct careful contextual analysis during the process of translation.More importantly,the target texts produced by computer-aided translation tools need to be proofread by the translators.The purpose of this report is to help translators understand the principles and workflow of computer-aided translation system(illustrated by the example of memoQ),the advantages of using computer-aided translation tools in non-literary texts,and the necessity and efficiency of combining human translation with computer-aided translation tools in the process of translation.
