Nowadays,as world trade integration continues to grow, more and more Chinese companies become active participants in the international business activities.Bid and bidding have gradually emerged as important ways of goods procurement and project contracting. In accordance with international practice, all documents and materials related to bid and bidding need an English version.Once a dispute arises, the English version will be used as a legal criterion for arbitration. Therefore, the accuracy of translation of bid and bidding documents exerts a significant impact on the interests of both bidder and tenderee. This translation project is extracted from the bid document of Phase 4 of Engineering of SCHAEFFLER Newly-Built Plant in Nanjing compiled by Jiangsu Qi'an Construction Group Co.,Ltd.The translation report is mainly divided into four sections. The first section introduces the background and the significance of translation practice. The second section sketches the translation process in detail, including analysis of the features of bid documents, description of the difficulties in the translation of the bid document and the translation method adopted to solve these difficulties, and proofreading of the translation before the handover and so on.The third part explains the translation principles guiding this translation practice and selects several cases from the translation to analyze how the skopos rule, the coherence rule and the fidelity rule in the Skopos Theory guide the translation and proofreading of technical terms, modal verbs, sentences without subjects and active voice in the bid document. The final part summarizes the achievements and the difficulties in the translation of the bid document and the details needing attention in the future. This translation report will provide a valuable reference for the translation research of bid documents.
