| This thesis is a report focusing on the practice of translating the Loan and Security Agreement.Chapter 1 is an introduction to the project background, including brief of the project, significance of contract translation and report structure introduction. Then the author analyzes the source text from its contents, structure, and linguistic features from lexical and syntactic perspectives.Based on the analysis, the author selects Newmark’s Translation Theory as the guiding theory and applies both semantic and communicative translation strategies in the translation practice. In Chapter 3 the author exemplifies some typical sentences from the Loan and Security Agreement to study the application of the translation strategies. In Chapter 4,the author makes a case study on the difficulties and solutions in translation at levels including lexicon, syntactic, wording and format levels. The difficulties such as the translation of tautology, polysemy and synonym, passive voice sentence, complex sentence and redundant word together with the corresponding solutions are discussed. The author applies the translation techniques such as splitting, conversion and omission etc.to improve the target text.As the improvements of the translation quality is an integral part of translation, the author introduces quality control in Chapter 5 in two aspects: self-review and review by others. In the last chapter the author summarizes the translation process and the problem remaining to be solved. |
