This translation report is based on Chapter 3 of Consultation Regulation Impact Statement, which was published by Consumer Affairs Australia and New Zealand on the homepage of the Australian Treasury in 2017.Chapter 3 mainly covers the problems of extended warranties in Australia, the current legislative framework, and policy options and impact analysis so as to help consumers make more informed purchase decisions on extended warranties. In the process of translation, the author encountered some problems: a lack of relevant knowledge in the field of extended warranties, terminology problem and passive voice problem, attributive clauses problem.Since sentences containing attributive clauses account for nearly one third of the length of the source text, the quality of the translating the attributive clauses has a great impact on the quality of the translation of the source text.In addition, some attributive clauses have adverbial relations with the main clause in logic, which is difficult to distinguish. Therefore, this report focuses on the translation of attributive clauses. The author first expounds the definition, the classification and then discusses the translation skills of attributive clauses. After that, the translation skills of attributive clauses in chapter 3 of Consultation Regulation Impact Statement are discussed. The main skills available in this translation project are front-loading,division,and shift. The problem that an attributive clause is long can be solved by dividing the English sentence into Chinese clauses.Shifting an attributive clause into an adverbial clause can clarify the adverbial relationship implicit in the original sentence. The author hopes that this report can offer some help for the translation of attributive clauses in similar texts.
