Land is an indispensable and significant resource in a country, which plays a very important role in economic and social development.Understanding laws and regulations of the foreign land resource control system and absorbing their advantages are conducive to promoting the development of relevant laws in China. The Chinese versions of foreign zoning regulation texts are easy to read by domestic scholars,so translating relevant texts is of great significance to the improvement of zoning laws and regulations in China. The New State Zoning: Land Use Preemption Amid a Housing Crisis is an academic thesis towards the field of land zoning laws. Therefore, this practice report chooses this thesis as the task text and chooses the attributive clause as the focus. The author analyzes and solves the translation problems encountered in the translation practice. As an important grammatical component of sentences, attributive clause has always been the focus and difficulty in translation practice. There are many differences in structure and expression between Chinese and English. If some attributive clauses are translated directly, the content of the source text may not be accurately conveyed. As there are differences of attributive clauses in syntactic structures, sentence pattern characteristics, logical relations,it requires the author to use translation theory and translation experience flexibly to express the meaning of the source language more clearly and accurately. In the academic thesis,The New State Zoning: Land Use Preemption Amid a Housing Crisis, there are a large number of attributive clauses, which are various and very representative.Based on this, with the help of Catford's "structural shift" concept, this report chose appropriate translation methods and translation strategies, analyzed and solved the translation problems encountered in the translation of attributive clauses. And finally the task text was translated into Chinese completely and smoothly. This report divided the translation problems into two categories: problems in restrictive attributive clause translation and in non-restrictive attributive clause translation. In order to solve problems in restrictive attributive clause translation, this report used three translation skills: preposition, postposition and combining translation; While dealing with problems in non-restrictive attributive clause translation, the report used three translation skills: combination, division and adverbialization. When translating attributive clauses, the author made a detailed and rigorous analysis of sentence structure and internal logic of attributive clauses, reasonably selected translation strategies and restored the original meaning of the task text to a great extent. The author hopes to provide some practical and reference methods for the attributive clause translation in such academic papers.
