This is a translation report based on Wellington District Court's Written Judgement on Kent Richard Boyd v.Attorney-General.Judgment is the deciding on the parties in the case and it is formed after trail of the case,which has its credibility and cannot be trampled on.Typical legal judgement can regulate people's behavior,guide social behavior and promote social harmony.China is now in a special period of continuous improvement of the rule of law.At the same time,due to the rapid development of society,people's desire for a better material life and spiritual life is constantly growing,so the construction of the rule of law urgently needs to keep pace with the times and prevent new illegal and criminal activities.The construction of the rule of law needs to face new problems in social development.How to solve new problems can be studied by referring to mature cases,absorbing the essence and combining with the actual situation of the new period.Therefore,the author selects the written judgment of the Wellington District Court of New Zealand on Kent Richard Boyd v.Attorney General as the translation material,and the author selected the long sentences for studying its translation method,aiming at providing case materials for relevant domestic legal workers.Legal English judgment is a legal text,and generally it has many long sentences.In the process of translation,except adopting relevant translation skills,the translation should also conform to the reading habits of Chinese legal professionals in terms of language expression.Therefore,this report refers to Skopos Theory.After the translator has an in-depth understanding of the expectations of the target readers,he can reproduce the content of the foreign legal English judgment with specific translation methods.The author hopes to disseminate fairness and justice through translation so as to provide relevant case translations for legal workers and legal English learners for their reference.
