This report explores the simulated consecutive interpreting(CI)of China's foreign ministry spokespersons' regular press conferences in 2018,focusing on the CI practice related to the trade war between the US and China and the Korean Peninsula issue. This report has two main objectives:to identify interpreting problems caused by cultural differences and linguistic distinctions and to examine some possible solutions for these problems.Linguistic Adaptation Theory is used as the theoretical framework for accomplishing these goals. The analyses of problems in interpreting Chinese cultural-loaded terms and metaphors show that the lack of the knowledge of the source language hinders the interpreter in providing an accurate interpretation and literal interpretation makes the interpreter unable to fulfill the utterer's aims in using these words.Meanwhile, the analyses of problems at the linguistic level indicate that the enforced lexical and grammatical shifts from the source language to the target language contribute to the interpreter's difficulties in interpreting naturally and clearly. These suggest that methods like expanding knowledge base, strategies such as domestication, paraphrase, amplification and simplification, and principles for lexical selection can be effectively used in this simulated consecutive interpreting to solve those problems.
