A Report On A Simulated Consecutive Interpretation Of Regular Press Conference Of MFA Under The Guidance Of The Skopos Theory

This simulated practice report used the Spokesperson Lu Kang's Regular Press Conference of Ministry of Foreign Affairs(MFA)on June,15th and 16th,2016 as the material to present the consecutive interpreting process.The Regular Press Conference of MFA,undertaken by the Information Department of Chinese MFA and hosted by MFA Spokesperson,is responsible for releasing information on China's major diplomatic events and stating China's foreign policy.With natures of immediacy,political,sensibility and preciseness,Regular Press Conference proposes highly professional requirements to the interpreter,on the other hand provides interpreting learners with abundant practicing materials.Practicing and reporting on this material is practically significant.This simulated practice aimed to enhance the acquaintance with the process of Regular Press Conference,translation methods on diplomatic language and enrich practice experience of diplomatic interpreting.This report analyzed and concluded some translating skopos in the simulated practice,suggested corresponding strategies under the guide of the Skopos Theory,so as to solve translating problems.This report targeted in realizing the deficiency on interpreting and improving the interpreting learner's interpreting ability.There are four main chapters in this report.Chapter One briefs on background information of the Regular Press Conference of MFA,features of the press conference and some requirements on the interpreter.Chapter Two describes the process of preparation and practice as well as affairs after the interpreting.Chapter Three briefly introduce the Skopos Theory and its availability in diplomatic interpreting.Chapter Four makes case analysis on interpreting under the guidance of the Skopos Theory.Under different translating purposes,different translating strategies were adapted.This chapter analyzes the fulfillment of these translating purposes.By comparing with the reference translation,some unsolved problems in the failed cases are also analyzed in light of the Skopos Theory.Chapter Five makes summary on this interpreting practice.
