A Report On Interpreting For The 2018 Chinese Football Coaches Training Program In The UK

From June to September,2018,the author has worked as an interpreter in Manchester,UK,for the Chinese Football Coaches Training Program.Four video clips from the program will be transcribed by the author to identify recurring problems and come up with strategies.On the bright side,preparations before interpreting are done efficiently as the author has tracked football news over the years and gained much domain knowledge by osmosis.In addition,the interpreter can resort to emergency measures to overcome difficulties and get information across to listeners.At the program's closing ceremony,the author and her peers have received positive feedbacks from both parties thanks to professional working attitudes,sound coordination and close cooperation.However,the author still discovers two major flaws in her interpreting works:the lack of football expertise and coherence in language outputAfter close analysis,the author finds that lacking football expertise may result in errors and omissions of proper nouns and fixed expressions.Though interpreters can resort to transliteration,superordinate and addition to get around the problem,in the long rum,the most favorable solution is better preparation.In terms of language output,a stressful circumstance could undermine interpreters' language quality,triggering problems such as excessive use of filled pauses and confusion in personal pronouns.Interpreters should be more psychologically prepared for upcoming events.Better self-monitoring is needed to improve the quality of language output.
