Since the implementation of the reform and opening policy,China has made great changes and great achievements in many domains such as economic and politics.Cultural development has also achieved remarkable achievements, and cultural soft power has been comprehensively and rapidly promoted from passive and unconscious to active and conscious. As China moves from a closed society to an open one,the influence of Chinese cultural soft power has also stepped out of the country and become more and more attractive to foreign countries.China is growing into one of the pluralistic centres of cultural soft power that has an important impact on the world. However, the overall strength and international influence of China's culture are not commensurate with the profound cultural heritage, and the situation that the cultural soft power is strong in the west and weak in our country has not changed radically.Cultural soft power is an irreplaceable part of comprehensive national strength competition and is also an important source of national cohesion, national self-confidence as well as innovative ability. From the point of fierce international competition, strengthening the soft power of national culture has become an important strategic issue in front of all countries around the world. The rise of a great country must be prepared economically, politically, militarily and culturally.Generally speaking, whoever holds the dominant position in international discourse controls the initiative in world affairs. In other words,as a concentrated demonstration of a country's overall strength, the strength of the discourse power will directly affect the world influence. The report of the 19 th CPC National Congress pointed out,“through long-term efforts, socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era, which is a new historical orientation for China's development.New era...are required to grasp the reality and construct an international discourse system with Chinese characteristics,Chinese style and Chinese manner,to tell the ‘Chinese story' well,to spread the ‘Chinese voice',and to enhance the cultural soft power of the country.Strengthen the leading power of international exchanges.” Therefore,as socialismwith Chinese characteristics enters a new era of development, excavating and carrying of Chinese traditional culture has become a new way to improve the level of cultural soft power and strengthen our country's international voice power. It goes without saying that translation is an important factor for the sake of effectively spreading Chinese culture and enhancing the right to speak in China.Translation is not only the decoding of a different language, but also the communication and dialogue of another culture. It is an important way to spread culture.Translation is closely related to culture,so how to treat and deal with the cultural factors in the translation text, especially when the source language culture and the target language culture are quite different becomes an important topic in the field of translation. And it is very important to adopt proper translation strategies in order to do a good job in the foreign translation of Chinese culture. In the long history of translation development, literal translation, free translation, conversion and other translation strategies have emerged successively.Among these translation strategies, which one has more advantages over the spread of Chinese culture and the promotion of cultural soft power? If the strategy of foreignization is more conducive to the spread of Chinese culture and the promotion of cultural soft power, how can it be applied in cultural translation activities? This research adopts the literature review method and the contrast method to carry on the research to the above problems.Based on Foucault and Bourdieu's theory of discourse power, from the perspective of Joseph Nye's cultural soft power, this research attempts to explore the various translation strategies used in the translation of Chinese culture by qualitative examples following the objective reality of Chinese translation theory. After analyzing the six translation strategies, the author selects the texts containing Chinese cultural elements from four angles: novel, traditional Wushu, traditional festivals and tourism culture to find out the English translation texts which are translated with different translation strategies.Through the contrastive analysis of different English translation texts,it is found that in the new period of “culture going out”,the foreignization strategy retains a large number of Chinese cultural factors, which reflects the original cultural charm of the source language. It is more conducive to the dissemination and identification ofChinese culture. On the basis of analyzing the positive effects of foreignization translation strategies on cultural communication, through the understanding of the foreignized texts from Mo Yan's novel,Lu Xun's novel,Chinese cuisine and political propaganda and so on,this study explores the practical application of transliteration in translation activities by finding the transliteration, literal translation and noting in foreignization tests. In addition to the introduction and conclusion, the thesis consists of four parts. The first part introduces the definition, origin and development process of cultural soft power, understanding the importance of cultural soft power and simply introduces the current situation of Chinese soft power; Then it briefly introduces the definition, origin and development of discourse power as an important indicator of cultural soft power, and analyzes the important role of discourse power in the new period of China's development.Through the study of cultural translation, the second part tries to understand the origin and development of cultural translation, with the types of cultural translation strategies, and studies the relationship between cultural translation, cultural soft power, and discourse power. In the third part, from the perspective of cultural translation, the author makes a contrastive analysis of the different translation strategies in the texts of cultural translation in novels,Wushu, festivals and tourism. It is concluded that the translation strategy of foreignization is more conducive to the spread of Chinese culture in the new period when Chinese culture goes out.The fourth part discusses the application of foreignization translation strategy in the cultural translation of our country, mainly embodied in literature, life and politics, and puts forward some suggestions on cultural translation activities. The preservation of the source language and culture is conducive to the dissemination of culture.Through a contrastive study of the different translation strategies of texts,it is concluded that the foreignization strategy is more conducive to foreign readers' understanding of Chinese traditional culture and attracting foreign readers' interest.Through the analysis of the foreignized texts in different aspects,it is fully proved that foreignization translation can promote cultural exchange under the situation of seeking international recognition. The conclusion part summarizes the full text andputs forward some suggestions for the future research, and points out the limitations of this study.
