In recent years, domestic scholars pay more and more attention to the study of Australian culture. The Australian Research Center has been established in our university, and there are many related books and literature. Therefore, the translator chose Australian historian Bruce Scates' s A New Australia as the source text and completed the report on the basis of translating the Chapter Five. The difficulties in the process of translation were summarized by cases analysis, and the translation techniques for solving these difficulties were also listed, including amplification, omission, conversion, choice of word-meaning,and reinventing sentence structure and so on.The translator enumerated the corresponding translation methods by analyzing the cases to make the version be faithful to the original text to the greatest extent and conform to the language habits of the target language. In this translation practice, the translator realized the difficulties of translation, summarized the experience of translation, and needed to improve own translation skills constantly through more translation activities. This translation practice will help more Chinese readers to know more about Australian history and culture, and continuously increase the number of people reading relevant works in Australia,so as to enhance the exchanges and development between China and Australia.
