Meaning On The Move: Synthesizing Cognitive And Systems Concept Of Culture English-Chinese Translation Practice Report

This translation text is selected from a paper entitled Meaning on the Move:Synthesizing Cognitive and Systems Concept of Culture written by American sociologist Matthew Norton.By specifying the characteristics of culture and the semiotic mechanisms through which meaning is translated between cognition and environment,this paper provides a theory that can coordinate the concepts of cultural cognition and systems.This text is a sociological text with strong specialty and strict logic.In the case study,considering the characteristics of the text,the translation of sociological terminology is firstly carried out.Secondly,it puts forward the translation methods from the lexical level,namely the word conversion method,the word extension method and amplification.Then it analyzes sentence translation from the perspectives of voice conversion and readjustment of word order.It is hoped that this translation practice can enrich the translation works in this field and provide certain methods and strategies for the translation of sociological texts in the future.
