Whisper interpreting is a kind of simultaneous interpretation, which is widely used in conference interpreting because of its flexible operation. On October 16,2018,Professor Joanna Innes from Oxford University delivered a lecture at the Law School of Henan University. The theme of the lecture was “Making Social Policy from the bottom up: England 1688--1830”.In this lecture, the author conducted a whisper interpreting for two law school graduate students.Under the guidance of the Skopos Theory, this report tries to analyze the practice. This report consists of four parts: task description, process description, case analysis and conclusion.Chapter 1 mainly explains the source of this interpreting practice.Chapter 2 mainly expounds the process of this interpreting task.In this interpreting practice, the author adopts a variety of translation strategies based on syntactic linearity.Although some mistakes such as mistranslation and omissions have appeared, the translation task was basically completed, and the purpose of communication was achieved.Chapter 3 is the main part of the report. In this part, the author conducts a number of case analysis based on the recordings of the interpreting practice.Chapter 4 is a reflection of the author on the interpreting practice. It summarizes the successes and failures of the practice, and hopes to provide some helpful references for whisper interpreting. |
