This translation report is based on the translation of the first part of Off the Clock:Feel Less Busy While Getting More Done written by Laura,Vandercam,a notable writer,author and speaker on the topics of work-life balance,career development,parenting,time management,productivity,and making time for fun.Based on a time diary study of more than 900 people living full lives,Vandercam teaches: Spend more time on the things that matter,and less on the things that don't.The translation project aims to explore the secret whereby some people live highly effective lives and may shed some light on China's general public.According to Katharina Reiss' text typology,the source text belongs to the informative text,the aim of which is to educate and enlighten the reader.Under the guidance of Skopos theory,the translator makes every effort to conform to the purpose of the writer and the source text,and take into consideration the reading habits of the reader.The translation report consists of four chapters.The first describes the translation project,including the introduction of the translation task,the analysis of the source text and the generalization of the translation requirements as well.The second chapter reviews the translation process,such as the preparation of the translation and revision of the target text.The third chapter introduces Hans Vermeer's Skopos theory and then analyzes the difficulties encountered in the translation process at word,sentence and discourse level respectively and adopts different translation skills based on the Skopos theory.The fourth chapter puts forward any remaining problems and lessons learned from the translation project.
