On Rewriting Under The Theory Of Translation Action:A Report On The E-C Translation Of George Lucas:A Life(an Excerpt)

The author was selected for the translation project of George Lucas:A Life in Wold Knowledge Press from March 15th to May 25th in 2018,which is a semi-documentary literature written by Brian Jay Jones,a well-known writer in America.The book includes three chapters arranged in time order,introducing George Lucas' s life and movie career.Chaper one is chosen as source text,which mainly introduces George Lucas's childhood and the beginning of his movie career.During the translation,the target text,instead of being altogether "loyal" to the source text,is more or less rewritten to meet the requirements of the press.In view of this situation,this report is written to explore its main causes and find out what translation strategies can be adopted in light of Translation Action Theory,thus,providing reference to other translators.The report first explains what this report is and the reason of writing.It also reviews the whole translation process,including "preparation before the translation","translation process" and "modification after the translation".In the translation process,the author proposes that background knowledge and parallel texts are of great importance in translating.The author makes the translation style readable according to the requirements of the press.What's more,this part intends to share information on project management,how to cooperate with the proofreader,schedule the time properly and communicate with other team members to ensure the project is completed as scheduled.Next,based on Translation Action Theory,the author analyzes the problems encountered in translation and discusses the corresponding solutions.For example,how to translate some words with cultural characteristics when translation is a cross-cultural action,how to meet the requirements of clients(publishers)when translation is a purposeful interactive action,and how to meet the expectations of readers when translation is an interpersonal communication action.Finally,this report summarizes the lessons learned from this translation practice,and points out the problems to be solved in this translation practice,with a view to providing reference and inspiration for future translation practice.
