Translation Report On Paris After The Liberation 1944-1949 Under The Guidance Of Functional Equivalence Theory

As a bridge of communication between different countries,translation plays a vital role in cultural exchanges of the world.Due to the differences in customs,historical background and expressions between English and Chinese,it is difficult to achieve a perfect reading effect in English translation.This paper is a translation practice report based on part of the translation practice of Paris after liberation 1944-1949.The author of this book is Anthony Beaver,a British military historian and best-selling author of historical subjects.Paris after liberation 1944-1949 is one of his important works.The translator chose the latest version in 2004.Nida's functional equivalence theory plays an important role in translation,so it can effectively solve the differences between the two languages to meet the translation needs of this paper.This translation practice report is based on some chapters of Paris after the liberation 1944-1949 translated by myself and describes the specific situation of the translation,supplemented by actual cases,and the author analysis those cases from three levels--lexical,syntactic and discourse.It shows how to use the multiple translation methods to achieve the equivalent effect of translation from original to translation under the guidance of functional equivalence theory.Through in-depth analysis of the original text,the author summarizes some applicable translation strategies in the original text,such as annotation,words conversion,passive sentences,cohesion and coherence,addition and omission,so as to make the translation more consistent with the Chinese expression habits.The author carefully reflects on the whole translation process and summarizes the experience accumulated in this translation practice report.Through this translation practice report,the author applies the translation theory and skills to the specific translation practice,and improves the translator's translation ability.
