The translation practice report is based on the Hector and the Search for Lost Time. The author is Francois Lelord,a French psychiatrist, who has written many books. These books are more or less about life philosophy, arising the readers' resonance. What is time? This is not only a natural science problem, but also a philosophy problem. In the Hector and the Search for Lost Time,Francois does not use the terms of psychology to convey his advice on time, but uses the notes written by the protagonist Hector after deep conversations with each patient to enlighten readers and encourage them to live in the present and enjoy the present. There are many long and difficult sentences in the Hector and the Search for Lost Time.Long and difficult sentences feature multiple attributive clauses and various modifiers, which bring a lot of difficulties to the translator in translation process.Long and difficult sentences have always been a big difficulty in translation. The structure of long and difficult sentences is complex, with many logical levels and many juxtaposition components and modifiers, especially the postpositive attributive are very long. Therefore,it is essential for translators to master the skills of handling with long and difficult sentences in English.Hector and the Search for Lost Time is divided into 66 chapters and each chapter is short, with many dialogues between the characters, and shows the writer's hope for the readers from these dialogues. As the 66 chapters interlock with each other, during the translation process, the translator should not only focus on the coherence between sentence and sentence, but also need to pay attention to the continuity between the translation. In this translation practice, the translator takes German Functionalist Skopos Theory as the translation theory and combines theory with practice to solve the problems in translation,in keeping with the principle of purpose, the principle of coherence and the principle of fidelity. With the help of the three principles of Skopos Theory, the translator summarizes the translation methods and techniques in the process of dealing with the long and difficult sentences in the text and solves the problems in the translation.
