A Report On The Translation Of Long English Sentences

With the development of Chinese economy and social status,Chinese characters and culture have attracted many foreigners from all over the world.Translation,as one of the means of cross-cultural communication,undoubtedly plays an important role in this process.Since the cross-cultural differences,translators have faced many challenges,especially the translation of long English sentences.In order to change this situation,many scholars are also making great efforts to study translation further.This report will focus on the translation of the long sentences from the English original text Waterfall together with the translation methods of free translation and conversion.Actually,the differences in the structure of English and Chinese make the difficulties in translation of long English sentences.The complex structures and redundant modifiers of long English sentences are also the obstacles of translation.In order to improve this,the translators need to foster a higher level of English and translation ability.Free translation is a translation method that reproduces the general meaning of the original text.It is one of the most important translation techniques in translation by using this method to provide an accurate translation that is easily understood by the target readers of the language.In other word,free translation is designed to deliver the intended meaning of the source language,without paying too much attention to the style of the text and syntax of the original text,but it definitely aims to create an accurate translation product as well,just in a very different way.As an important translation technique,conversion,which can be commonly used in all parts of speech,always helps to add the target text with smoothness and naturalness.If translators keep all parts of speech the same in the target text when translating,the target text may not convey the intended meaning of the author.In this report,the translator used these two translation methods to study the translation of long English sentences.There are also some examples of original texts from Waterfall to illustrate the importance of the translation methods.
