Cross-culture Transmission Expressed By Oriental Symbols In Marvel Movies

Against the current background of globalization,cross-culture transmission has become a major trend.In the movies that spread the world,we can see that audiences are more willing to accept the different cultures than imagined.The spread of films is not limited to one country or region.As spiritual and cultural products,films naturally shoulder the functions of cultural connotation and cultural communication.As crossculture transmission theory matures,scholars have shown great passion on the issues of cultural conflicts,cultural differences,cultural identity,cultural imperialism and so on.Many scholars have also studied the expression of Chinese elements in Marvel's films,but they have not yet angled towards cross-culture transmission.Cross-culture transmission requires to be tested by actual audience resonance.Different audience perceptions are critical to cross-culture transmission.This paper starting from the general perspective of cross-culture transmission and has its point rest on the actual application of oriental symbols in Marvel Movies by its audiences,therefore providing supplements and guidance to the current research.This paper is divided into five parts.In the first part,the paper presents analysis of the background and meaning of selecting the topic of oriental symbol application against the current background of cross culture transmission,summaries of current domestic and international research status,and illustration of the research content and methods together with its innovations,difficulties and deficiencies.The second part presents cross-culture transmissions combined with Marvel movies.It first introduces the introduction of cross-culture transmission against globalization,and the important role of the current changes in the market and current transmission status.Then it illustrates the basic stories and cultural connotations in Marvel movies and analyzes the cultural context for Marvel movies to transmit in our culture and the combination between the Marvel cultural connotation and Chinese culture.The third part analyzes the cross-culture transmission application of Oriental symbols in Marvel movies.The analysis focuses on its transmission elements and it is carried out in three aspect – the theme selection and roles setting,the language style and symbolic compilation,and the global transmission of its values.It also analyzes the application of different oriental cultural elements in the current Marvel movie from the perspective of language,format and content.In the fourth part,survey based on self-designed questionnaire were then conducted and its result analyzed from the perspective of the audience resonance.The paper summarizes the cross-culture transmission experience that Marvel has,which includes,firstly,the recognition from the audience towards the oriental culture shown in Marvel movies;secondly,the phasing transmission of symbols in cross-culture transmission;and thirdly,the national cultural identity and sense of belongingness in cross-culture transmission.In the fifth part,the paper analyzes the enlightenment Marvel brought to domestic films.Namely,find cultural common ground to break the limit in the going out of traditional culture;the effective application of western cultural symbols,grasp the narrative perspective;and emphasize the value of China's cross-culture transmission in the context of global culture.At the end,the fifth part provided an overall summary.
