With the deepening of China's foreign exchange,translation of tourism texts is playing an increasingly vital role in the cultural exchanges between China and other countries,especially translation of cultural tourism resources such as translation of the former residences of personages or celebrities.High quality translations of tourism texts can not only effectively introduce tourist attractions and attract more foreign visitors,but also deepen their understanding of personages' life stories as well as the Chinese history and culture,which,in turn,would maximize the significance of tourism and help shape a good international image of China.However,the quality of tourism translations in China's former residences of personages is not satisfying,which seriously affects foreigners' impressions on former residences of personages as well as local tourism.In addition,there are few researches that have touched upon this specific topic so far.With regard to the above facts,it is imperative to carry out a relatively systematic study on the C-E translation of tourism texts in former residences of personages.In light of that background,this thesis,from the perspective of Eco-translatology,tries to investigate the C-E translations of tourism texts cited from three local former residences of personages in Wuxi and analyze the translator's adaptation and selection activities under the eco-environment in three translation stages,namely,“before translation”,“during translation” and “after translation”.Before translation,the translator understands and analyzes the differences and similarities between Chinese and English tourism texts as well as the expectation of target readers to get adaptive to certain translational eco-environment.During translation,the translator tries to make adaptations and selections in multi-dimensions under the guidance of translation principles of Eco-translatology.Apart from the linguistic dimension,cultural dimension and communicative dimension,this thesis proceeds to introduce the image dimension,which means whether the tourists' actual image of the translated tourism texts conform to the image of what the Chinese government or the local government tries to create through those texts,all with a view to checking the publicity effect of translated tourism texts.Furthermore,the thesis intends to provide some effective translation strategies and methods after analyzing the text features and problems in the translations of local tourism texts of Wuxi personages and,and to improve the tourism texts of former residences of personages in Wuxi according to the evaluation criteria of Eco-translatology after translation.This paper adopts such methods as documentary analysis,field work and questionnaire survey and has collected tourism texts,travel brochures and tickets both in Chinese and English from three local former residences of Wuxi personages as well as feedback from foreign tourists and English learners.After analysis,the author has found that there exist many mistakes like linguistic,pragmatic and cultural translational problems in the tourism translations in local former residences of personages.Therefore,the translator should display much more subjective initiative to improve his ability throughout the adaptation and selection process in the linguistic dimension,cultural dimension,communicative and image dimension.Also,the translator is supposed to produce and adjust his English versions to the changing translational eco-environment in order to satisfy the needs of foreign visitors.It is hoped that this research will provide reference for tourism translation explorations in domestic former residences of personages,help upgrade the local image and further accelerate cultural communication between China and the rest world.To be specific,in the linguistic dimension,the translator should have professional bilingual conversion ability to adapt to the expression habits of tourism texts in different languages;in the cultural dimension,the translator must have cross-cultural awareness during the translation process and handle the translation of various cultural terms in tourism texts to ensure the smooth communication of cultural information;in the communicative dimension,the translator should clarify the communicative intention of the tourism text and retain the communicative function of the original texts to the greatest extent in the target texts;in the image dimension,the translator should take into account all aspects of the content and display of the translated texts so as to maintain a good international tourist image of the former residences of personages.
