A Report On E-C Translation Of Point Cloud Data Fusion For Enhancing 2D Urban Flood Modelling(Excerpt)

To resist flood disasters effectively,continuous and in-depth study of flood modeling techniques both at home and abroad has made a number of breakthroughs.Some achievements made by foreign countries are worthwhile for domestic researchers and learners,which accounts for the reason why E-C translation of Surveying and Mapping texts about flood modeling has great significance in scientific and technological translation.This report selects the Summary,Chapter 4,Chapter 5 and Chapter 9 as the source text in a Surveying and Mapping book published by CRC Press in 2017,named Point Cloud Data Fusion for Enhancing 2D Urban Flood Modelling.Under the guidance of Skopos Theory,this report explores E-C translation methods and strategies of flood modeling texts.First of all,the source of the translation text,the characteristics of this flood modeling text and the background and significance of the translation task are issued.Then,preparations before flood modeling text translation,translation process,and quality control after translating are listed faithfully.Next,under the guidance of Skopos Theory,this report discusses some translation methods for source text:at lexical level,flood modeling terminologies,such as abbreviations,technical terms,semi-technical terms and non-technical words,and nominalizations are discussed in detail;at syntactic level,methods of coping with passive voice,for example,remaining and converting,are explored,and methods such as syntactic linearity,reversing and synthesis translation are recommended to resolve the problems in long and complex sentence translating;at discourse level,according to the source text,cohesion of the context is presented.Based on the above,the translator gives her feedback on translating task,sums up the experience and lists some unsolved problems.Ultimately,it is concluded that flood modeling texts,as informative texts,are aimed at contents transmission.Thus,when translating these texts,translators can ensure the accuracy and readability of target texts by adopting some corresponding methods and strategies under the guidance of Skopos Theory.
