| Environment protection is an eternal topic. The Harvest Of The Sea edited by James Bertram summarizes the viewpoints on how to rationally use marine resources.Although the book is based on the British fishery,it can make a lot of sense for China to improve the Marine environment and promote the fishery. And the translator translates and analyzes the first two chapters of the book, mainly introducing a variety of marine fishes and their present situation. The translation report consists of five parts.Chapter One gives a brief introduction to the whole translation task, including the background, the choice of source text and its significance.Chapter Two describes the translation process, including preparation, translation process and proofreading.Chapter Three is a brief introduction to the translation theory applied--Skopos Theory.Considering the linguistic characteristics of the source text, the translator selects Hans J.Vermeer’s Skopos Theory as the guiding principle of this translation practice.Chapter Four comes to the main part of the translation report, namely case study,in which typical examples are analyzed to discuss such translation methods or strategies as amplification, omission, conversion and negation etc.At the lexical level, the translator not only comprehensively summarizes the terms related to sea fish, but also studies how to translate polysemous words. At the syntactic level, the translator manages to achieve fidelity and smoothness of translation and discourse coherence by using all kinds of translation skills.Chapter Five is the conclusion of this translation report including reflections and limitations of this translation report. |
