Since the birth of the world movie,the documentary has always played an important role in many film types with its precious literature value and artistic value.The emergence of China's film documentary is almost in sync with the world's film history,but due to the different environments,the entire development process is also very different.In recent years,with the continuous improvement of China's economic level and the rapid expansion of the film market,domestic documentary films have ushered in a period of rapid development.On the one hand,the total box office of domestically produced movies in China has reached 37.797 billion in 2018.The prosperity of the entire film market has provided favorable support for the development of documentary films.On the other hand,the continuous broadcast of documentary works in the TV platform has also cultivated quite a part.The documentary audience has laid the foundation for the documentary film type to enter the market.Under such a background,how to make opportunities for domestic film documentaries,occupy a place in the huge film market,and form a relatively mature documentary film culture,has become a problem to be considered.Based on the development status of Chinese film documentaries,this paper will adopt literature research,theoretical analysis,case analysis,audience survey and other research methods to explore the root causes of the failure of the domestic documentary film market to develop well,and through the excellent foreign box office.The analysis of documentary cases provides some targeted references and suggestions for its future market development path.The research is divided into four chapters,which are elaborated from four aspects:documentary history,survival status,success case analysis and development strategy.The first chapter first expounds the concept and scope of the film documentary,and sorts out the development process of China's film documentary in the past 100 years,providing background and context for understanding the current documentary culture and market development in China.The second chapter takes the domestic film documentary of the past five years(2014-2018)as a sample range,and analyzes the current living conditionsfrom the four aspects of narrative theme,production and broadcast mechanism,cinema marketing model and audience demand status.Problems in the development process.The third chapter analyzes the content production orientation and market operation mode of documentary films in foreign countries with the excellent documentary of the high box office revenue in France.It provides experience for the development of documentary films in China.The fourth chapter focuses on four aspects of government policy support,film quality,audience viewing habits,and marketing methods,and strives to explore documentary development strategies that are consistent with China's national conditions.
