With the development of the film and television industry, the demand for highlevel film and television production talents is increasing. The VES Handbook of Visual Effects is a classic guide for the film and television special effects production industry. It has been published to the second edition but there is no Chinese version. This paper is based on the practical problems encountered in the translation process of this book,as well as some thoughts in solutions to those problems with the help of the Skopos Theory. The report gives a record of the entire process of the translation project: from the formation of the translation team, the cooperative translation on the translation platform,to the finalization with the help of the professionals and the translation company. In this process, the translator encountered three major problems: professional terms, passive voice sentences and long sentences.By reading parallel texts and seeking the help of professionals, the translator completed the preparation of the terminology.Computer-aided translation tools and text-checking tools are used to complete the initial translation and language proofreading of the translation project.Under the guidance of coherence rule and fidelity rule of the Skopos theory, the translator summarizes the characteristics of the passive voice sentences and long sentences in the original text, and solves the problems encountered in translation by using the translation skills of deconstruction and reconstruction. The translator summarizes and reflects on the gains and deficiencies in the translation process through the practical working on the translation of scientific and technical texts in the film and television industry. The task shows that translators need to constantly consolidate their basic bilingual skills and expand their knowledge base as much as possible, pay attention to translation theory learning, and apply what they have learned so as to combine theory with practice. In addition, translators need to keep pace with the times and learn to use different kinds of computer-aided tools to improve translation efficiency. The translation project and translation report have generally deepened the author's understanding of the translation work, and would provide reference to similar translation practice activities in the future.
