A Report On Subtitle Translation Of Documentary Climbing

As the carrier and media of human culture,documentary works own magnificent culture value and social responsibilities.Clirymbing mainly narrates the unusual experiences of Chen Zhou,a disabled young man lost both legs,who challenges himself as well as achieves various heart-warming feats.It promotes the humanistic feelings of the Chinese nation and carries forward the correct values to the society.Under the guidance of Peter Newmark's text typology theory,the author chooses the proper translation strategies and methods from the perspectives of commentary,dialogues and popular song,based on the source text's characteristics and functions.From the aspects of continuity introduction,language accuracy and cultural values,commentary,mainly having the informative function,shall be translated using splitting method,omission translation,conversion,diction and so on.To the dialogues,mainly having vocative function,from preserving the original dialogues style and focusing on the context,the proper translation methods have amplification,annotation,free translation,equivalence translation etc.The song having expressive function is studied from understanding and expression.It shall adopt combination,diction,adjustment structure and so on.Finally,the author makes conclusion and prospects of this report,with an attempt to give some references for the documentary related field studies.
