According to WHO reports, the depression, considered as the world's fourth major disease currently,is predicted to become the second disease after cardiovascular disease in 2020.However,now only a few patients with depression can get medical help and professional treatment, and many domestic and foreign research achievements on depression cannot be shared due to the language barrier. Some achievements made by western countries are worthwhile for domestic doctors to learn or use for reference, which accounts for the reason why E-C translation of medical English has great significance of scientific translation. This is a report on E-C translation practice of medical book on Psychodynamic Treatment of Depression which is a monograph.Chapter eight and chapter nine are chosen as the translation material. This translation report is mainly composed of four chapters.Chapter one is the task description which introduces the source of the text, the task significance and features of the source text.Chapter two is translation process, including preparation of translation, time schedule and quality control.Chapter three focuses on the case analysis, which is the main part of the report.Under the guidance of Skopos Theory, this paper is carried out at three levels—lexical level, syntactic level and discourse level, including technical terms, nominalization, translation of long and complex sentences, translation of passive sentences,as well as cohesion of the context.Chapter four summarizes the experience which gained in the process of translation and points out the problems to be solved in the future translation practice. The whole translation process, including materials collection, translation, verification and summary, helps to put the knowledge into practice.Hence, when translating this kind of texts, the translator should manage to make target language readable,or with "readability",to receptors by employing some corresponding translation methods under the guidance of Skopos Theory. Therefore, this translation practice report could provide some parallel reference to the future translation of medical texts.
