With the deepening of the new curriculum reform and the change of teachers' educational concepts,the advantages of the heuristic teaching are becoming more and more prominent.It is an intrinsic motivation source for students to learn.In the traditional classroom,it is mainly based on the model of the teacher as the main character while students are passively accepted for learning.Heuristic teaching changed the teachers' teaching method by discussing the dialogue and exploring ways,which is mobilizing the enthusiasm and initiative of students' learning,focusing on improving students' ability to solve problems and cultivating students' creative thinking.Therefore,heuristic teaching to education largely conforms to the current trends in the education reform.Based on the summarization of the related theories and the previous research,this study combines the characteristics of English teaching in primary schools.It starts from the actual situation,which is adopting four methods: questionnaire survey,observation method,interviewing method and experimental method.The current situation of English teaching in primary schools is studied empirically.The subject of the research is the students from two parallel classes of Grade Six in a primary school of Jiangsu Province.Before the start of the experiment,the performance of the two classes was analyzed.After confirming that there was no significant difference in the English level of the two classes,Class 1,Grade 6 applied heuristic teaching,while Class 2,Grade 6 applied the traditional teaching.After the experiment,the final grades of the experimental class and the controlled class were analyzed.Through comparing the teaching effects of experiment class and controlled class,heuristic teaching has a significant effect.At the same time,through observation in the classroom,the author found that most students in the experimental class increased their interest in learning English and improved their ability to solve problems independently during the learning process.Combining the characteristics of pupils' learning,the author puts forward the specific implementation steps in English teaching in primary schools.It is discussed in detail from the problem-solving stage,the problem-reflecting stage and the problem-setting stage.The results of this study show that heuristic teaching takes ‘question' as a medium.It stimulates students' interest in learning English,and it enhances students' awareness of cooperation.Itimproves their English comprehensive ability.
