As one of the three elements of language,vocabulary plays an important role.As a main source of vocabulary for learners from TCFL textbooks,the quality of annotation of vocabulary will directly affect the teaching effect.At present,there are many problems with the interpretation of new words in Chinese textbooks for foreigners in China,especially the interpretation of cultural words.Culture words bear the function of disseminating cultures,so culture words teaching is not only the point we need to focus on,but also is the difficult part we are faced with.Then the interpretation of culture words in the new vocabulary part of a textbook will inevitably affect the results in teaching and ultimately have impact on cultural teaching.The New Practical Chinese Textbook(6 volumes)is one of the prescribed textbooks of the National Office of Chinese Language.It has been used for many years.Its universality and scientificity are already obvious to all.Therefore,this paper chooses the cultural words in the new words part of the English translation textbook as the research object.This paper is divided into four parts.The first part is an introduction.It mainly includes the significance and object of the research,the summary of the previous research results,the definition of related concepts and research methods.In the second part,according to the specific concepts of cultural words derived from the introduction,all the cultural words in the new vocabulary part(including supplementary new words)of the whole set of textbooks are screened out,and then a detailed classification is made according to the specific cultural words.Then in accordance with the classification,the number and proportion of cultural words in each category are counted in different stages,and the selection characteristics of cultural words in each stage are analyzed.The third part is about the analysis of the specific forms,modes and contents of the interpretation of cultural words in the second part.In the form of interpretation,the presentation of all cultural words in textbooks and the word examples of Chinese characters are analyzed in stages,and tables are drawn.According to the specific situation of cultural words in textbooks,the mode of interpretation can be divided into media mode and mixed mode,and the specific types of interpretation of cultural words can be counted.The content of interpretation is studied from three aspects as follows: the object of interpretation,the choice of meanings and the components of meanings.The fourth part puts forward problems and improvement strategies in the interpretation on the basis of the previous analysis.The problem in the form of interpretation is that the way of presentation of interpretation language lays particular stress on the interpretation of media language;the problem in the mode of interpretation is that the method of interpretation is single;the problem in the content of interpretation is that the reproduction rate of cultural words is low and irregular,the choice of polysemous words is not comprehensive and the annotation of connotative meanings is not clear.According to the above problems,the corresponding improvement strategies are put forward.
