With the deepening of economic globalization and the promotion of the “Belt and Road” initiative,China’s international status has been constantly improving and its cultural cooperation and exchanges with other countries are becoming more frequent.Interpretation of anniversary speeches,as a medium of cultural communication, plays a more and more important role in cross-cultural communication. In the process of interpretation, how to interpret culture-loaded expressions with Chinese characteristics, such as idioms, poems and proverbs, etc.in the speech,is a big challenge faced by interpreters. This practice report is based on the theory of interpretive theory and aims to provide some specific methods for the interpreting of cultural-loaded expressions. These methods can make interpreters perform well when they encounter these expressions, which can not only promote Chinese culture but also guarantee the quality of interpreting.Under the guidance of interpretive theory, the author has conducted a simulated consecutive interpreting of the speeches delivered by Xi Jinping and Lin Jianhua at the 120 th anniversary of the founding of Peking University and make a report.Firstly, the author has made sufficient preparations before interpreting, such as searching and sorting out background knowledge, searching related vocabulary and parallel texts on the Internet.Secondly, the occasion of the speech is analyzed, which is a formal speech, and the audience is also analyzed. Finally, after the completion of the simulated practice, the author made a case study of the methods of dealing with culture-loaded expressions in the process of interpretation. In the process of the theory guiding practice, the author makes some conclusions: Firstly,Interpretive theory mainly emphasizes conveying meaning and plays a guiding role in the whole simulation practice.Under the guidance of interpretive theory,we can express their meaning, either by retaining the characteristics of the source language or by retaining its meaning.Secondly, free interpreting is one of the commonly used methods in interpreting culture-loaded expressions when the two cultures collide. On the basis of the interpreter’s full understanding of the original text and the characteristics of target language,he can give full play to the subjective initiative by expressing the meaning accurately and correctly through deverbalization, which is conducive to guaranteeing the audience’s logical thinking and overall thinking.Thirdly, literal interpreting retains the original cultural characteristics,so that foreign audience can have a better understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture. This also coincides with the interpretive theory which targets at the transmission of communicative meaning.Fourthly, due to time limit in consecutive interpreting, the interpreter needs to finish the task in limited time,so that omission, transliteration and substitution can also be used as methods to interpret culture-loaded expressions to ease the interpreter’s or the audience’s cognitive burden.Parallel sentences are often used in the anniversary speeches for achieving emphasis and rhythmic balance,so we don’t need to interpret every word or every sentence said by the speaker, just expressing the core idea of the parallel sentences or words, focus on the transmission of meaning in interpreting according to the interpretive theory. The results of this practice show that the interpretive theory has a guiding role in the interpreting culture-loaded expressions. It is of great significance on how to cross the cultural differences and transmit the meanings of the culture-loaded expressions with cultural characteristics effectively.
