Along with the development of Chinese cross-culture communication nowadays, the translation of Chinese excellent literary works into English can be compared to a bridge which plays an important role in helping the whole world understand the essence of Chinese culture. In comparison with classics, poems and novels, proses are relatively easier in linguistic popularity and more effective for foreign friends to understand the Chinese culture.Yang Jiang,a famous Chinese writer and translator, was well-versed in both Chinese and western cultures.Hereby Yang Jiang's prose Reaching the Brink of Life written at her age of 96 was selected as the translation material. This work is mainly divided into two parts: the first part is concerned with her philosophical thinking relevant to living;the second part is about some records of unforgettable people and events that occurred in her whole life. The first, second, third, fourth, fifth part and the preface of the work are selected in this translation report to recommend the Chinese excellent culture to the world. This translation report is done mainly by means of comparison between Chinese and English languages, not only expecting to accurately convey the major contents of the original text but also to transfer the gist of the original.Through scrutinizing the original, the author realizes that the most important and difficult points of this translation task should be focused on a large number of culturally-loaded words and the transformation of the original style.Drawing lessons from the C-E version of Yang Jiang's famous work We Three and some other previous translation strategies of prose, the paper ensures the naturalness and fluency of the translation.Meanwhile, the translation adapts to the target readers' cognitive habits and meets the requirements of target readers in their cultural background by referring to the Categorization Theory, stylistic markers theory by Liu Miqing and Verschueren's Adaptation Theory. This translation report consists of four parts: the first part is related to the compact overview of the translation practice report, including the background, significance, purpose, the brief introductions of the author, original work, the analysis of linguistic style of the original and the structure of this report;the second part is the description of the translation process, including the preparation for translation, the key and difficult points in the translation process, proofreading, etc.;the third part is concerned with the case analysis, combined with the main and difficult points in the process of translation. From the aspects of lexis, sentential style and textual cohesion, many concrete examples of C-E translation have been studied and analyzed in this part;the fourth part is the conclusion, which points out some new discoveries, experiences, some shortcomings summarized in the process of the C-E translation and forwards some suggestions for further studies.
