This thesis aims to expound information shifts in English to Chinese simultaneous interpreting(hereinafter referred to as E-C SI)under the guidance of Gile's Effort Model of SI by analyzing live streaming interpreting contributed by four professional interpreters of Apple's Product Launch 2017.Scholars at home and abroad have studied various aspects of translation shift, but this thesis tries to give a description of types of information shifts in E-C live streaming SI and explain reasons behind each type.By analyzing the authentic materials, the current research plans to answer the following questions: 1)What are the types of information shifts in E-C live streaming SI? 2)How is each type of shift distributed in E-C live streaming SI? 3)What are the possible causes behind each type of information shift in E-C live streaming SI? This study employs a descriptive approach of translation studies. To answer the first and the third question,an inter-textual comparison analysis is needed, while to probe into the second one,a quantitative analysis is needed.Under an analytical framework learned from Wang Binhua's three shaping forces of interpreting performance and Gile's Effort Model of SI,major findings are as follows: 1)Addition,Omission,Substitution and Generalization are four major information shifts found in E-C live streaming SI;2)Omission has the highest occurrence among those four types of information shifts while Generalization appears least frequently followed by Addition;3)Influenced by the language specificity between English and Chinese and when the interpreter fails to coordinate well between the listening and analysis effort, the short-term memory effort and the production effort he/she may make departures from the original discourse to reduce the burden and achieve balanced allocation of efforts.
