A Practice Report On Interpretation In Chengdu Creativity Design Week

With the accelerating communication between China and foreign countries,Chengdu Creativity Design Week serves as a critical platform to promote external exchanges.The author took part in this event as a volunteering interpreter for two Pakistan professors Umer Rehman and Imrana Shahryar from Nov.9-Nov.13,2017.This practice report is based on the author's practice.In the 1960 s,the Interpretative Theory was proposed by Danica Seleskovitch and Marianne Lederer of ESIT.According to this theory,interpretation is a trianglular process including comprehension,de-verbalization,and re-expression;the target of interpretation is to convey sense.This theory is transdisciplinary integrating interpretation research and cognitive science.Guided by this theory,this report probes into interpretation methods under three phases through taking interpretation practice as research object and case analysis as research method.During the process of interpretation,the author fulfilled her task by careful preparation including accents,terminology,cultural knowledge preparations.At comprehension level,the author interpreted implicitness;used methods such as implicitness construction and irrelevant information deletion at de-verbalization level;employed encyclopedic knowledge supplement and topic sentence and logic words addition at re-expression level.It was found that conveying sense is effective due to instantaneity and the large amount of vocabulary of interpretation and encyclopedic knowledge is conducive to interpretation.This report is organized as follows.Chapter One introduces task background and interpretation arrangements and significance.Chapter Two dwells on interpretation preparations,including linguistic and extra-linguistic knowledge preparations.Chapter Three is a brief literature review of the Interpretative Theory,as well as an introduction to the Trianglular Model.Chapter Four depicts Case Study,analyzing interpretation methods guided by the Interpretative Theory.Then in Chapter Five,the author puts forward some limitations and suggestions.
