Translation Competence studies have been gaining momentum in recent years as its enormous impact on analyzing,evaluating and reinforcing translators and/or interpreters'capability is increasingly recognized.With comprehension and expression at its heart,scholars and experts have summarized specific areas of knowledge and techniques in translation and interpretation primarily including linguistic knowledge,extra-linguistic knowledge and translation/interpretation skills.Similarly,Li Changshuan's translation framework of "comprehension,expression,and emergency response" responds semantically and functionally to the whole process of translation/interpretation covering preparation,understanding,expression and techniques employment.The framework focuses on research beforehand about a certain translation/interpretation activity concerning the speaker/author,the occasion,and the purpose at the macro level as well as critical details such as wording,coherence,cohesion,succinctness,style and coping strategies in effectively arranging and coordinating expression at the micro level.This thesie examines-10 MTI students' performance in a Chinese-English Simultaneous Interpretation course as a case study to find out occurring problems and responses.Similar problems are classified and analyzed such as misunderstanding of the speech,lack of background knowledge,awkward expressions etc.Students are supposed to balance the listening effort and interpreting effort simultaneously in order to check problems and make sure accurate and complete reproduction of the speech is fulfilled accompanied with comprehensive knowledge and proper coping strategies.Constant practice centering on comprehension and expression are needed to improve translation competence.
