The global cultural and creative industries are growing rapidly and prospering,but China and other countries and regions are still faced with many problems in the development of cultural and creative industries.These countries and regions have a late start,coupled with the lack of scientific theory guidance and related practical experience.The source material of this translation practice is selected from the academic conference paper “Cultural Creativity and Design Services: Characteristics and Functions”.It is an academic article that explains the basic knowledge of the cultural and creative industries in details and provides guidance for practical operations based on specific real cases.The source material,as a piece of academic article is accompanied by the characteristics of authenticity,objectivity,accuracy,readability and logic.Peter Newmark defines language as six functions such as expressive function,informative function,vocative function and so on,and according to the six text functions,he also divides texts into six categories: expressive text,informative text,vocative text etc.The core of informative text is the accurate translation of information,which requires the translator to follow the principle of “authenticity first”.It is consistent with the text features and the text functions of this source text.Based on the above analysis,the translator uses Newmark's translation theory to guide the translation practice.Newmark proposes eight translation methods,and semantic translation and communicative translation are the core of Newmark's translation theory.Communicative translation takes readers as the service center,and shifts the focus of translation to the reproduction of the original content.Therefore,communicative translation is more suitable for informative text.In the practice of translation,the translator takes communicative translation as the main translation method,applying varieties of translation techniques such as division,combination,omission to solve problems like long and difficult sentences.The translator works hard to accurately reproduce the overall characteristics and functions of cultural creativity and designservices in the target language,and ensure the quality and readability of the target text.The conference paper embodies the research results of the author in a certain field.It can timely reflect the latest developments or academic researches in this field.The translation of the conference paper into English can achieve the purpose of communicating with the international community and understanding the latest international scientific researches and developments.The selected source text summarizes the developments,experiences and related researches about China's cultural and creative industries in recent years.It is hoped that this translation practice can contribute to the translation work of domestic academic papers in order to enhance the readability of the target text and better realize the reference value of academic papers.
