Nowadays,it has become an effective way to introduce some high-quality popular science works from abroad to popularize scientific knowledge.Although there are many popular science works translated into Chinese, the research on popular science works translation is far from adequate. Therefore, the translator hopes that this translation report can offer some referential value for those engaged in the study of popular science works translation. This report is based on the E-C translation of the first part in the first chapter of the book Machine,Platform,Crowd: Harnessing Our Digital Future.Published in2017 and co-authored by Andrew McAfee and Erik Brynjolfsson, this book reexamines the digital revolution in view of the rebalancing of the three groups of concepts—minds and machines, products and platforms as well as the core and the crowd,so that readers can have a basic understanding of the digital revolution and foresee the future of the digital society. From the perspective of functional equivalence theory, this report analyzes the problems in the process of translation from the lexical, syntactic and textual levels and summarizes some translation strategies applicable to the E-C translation of popular science books. In this report,as the difficulty in the lexical level mainly focuses on the translation of proper nouns, terminology and common words, the translator adopted such translation strategies as literal translation, free translation and the conversion of word class to deal with this difficulty. In light of the difficulty in the syntactic level which concentrates on the translation of long sentences, the translator selected such translation strategies as linear translation, sequence changing approach and division to cope with this difficulty. As the main problem in the textual levelcenters on the realizing of cohesion and coherence of the text, the translator chose the technique of omission to solve this problem.
