Critical thinking is playing an increasingly prominent role in the field of education in China.Excellent textbooks related to Critical Thinking in foreign countries have attracted more attention in the field of translation.Translating relevant books can help to expand the resources on teaching Critical Thinking thus giving more options and references for teachers and learners. This report is based on the translation practice project—Chapter 1 of Invitation to Critical Thinking which is a textbook on the subject of Critical Thinking in the United States. In this report, the translation project and the translation process are described;problems and countermeasures in translation are discussed with the focus on the language problems and translation methods in the process of translation. For the case analysis part of this practice report, the translation methods and strategies proposed by Vinay and Darbelnet are adopted as the theoretical basis to analyze the difficulties in translation. It is found that there are three most adaptable ways to solve translation problems: modulation, transposition and adaptation. This translation practice not only makes the translator aware of her shortcomings in some aspects as a translator, but also improves her translation ability and skills, enriches relevant texts of Critical Thinking in China, and provides some references for future translation and research of relevant texts.
