As continuous progress is made in science and technology, there occur numerous scientific concepts and achievements, and international exchanges are increasingly frequent, which provide a large stage for translation works. As a master of translation and interpretation, dabbling in different fields' translation would not only improve my translation ability but increase the understanding to those disciplines. Therefore,to do some practice, five articles around 10,000 words in total from the first two weeks' New Scientist in February,2019 were translated. And this report will be written based on their translation and give high priority to analyzing the difficulties met while translating and solutions to them.Being rather professional,New Scientist is written in a simple style and clear language which owes much to the commonly used participles constructions. However, they were also the biggest difficulty while translating. However, there are few studies on the translation of participle constructions in scientific writings. To bridge this gap, this report gives examples on the participles' translation guided by the Skopos theory and concludes a set of methods for the translation of participles in different functions:a)Addition and omission can be used to translate participles forming tenses.b)Conversion and addition can be used to translate participles involved in passive.c)Conversion, addition and reorganization can be applied to the translation of participle phrases used in the function of subject complement.d)Division, conversion and reorganization can be applied to the translation of participle phrases used in the function of object complement.e)Inversion, syntactic linearity, division, conversion and reorganization are applicable to the translation of participles used as attributive modifiers and adverbial modifiers.Besides, combination may also be used to the translation of participles used as adverbial modifiers.Such methods are beneficial to the participle's translation in similar writings. And this report tells people that it is a right choice to choose the Skopos theory as a leading theory while translating scientific texts.
