Parental anxiety about children’s education refers to the emotions of nervousness,uneasiness,annoyance and panic experienced by parents in the activities of educating their children,because of the uncertainty of educational results and their worries about their educational ability.According to the theory of family system,family members interact with each other.Parental anxiety about children’s education not only affects their own behavior and psychology,but also affects their children’s behavior and psychology.The purpose of this study is to explore how parental anxiety about children’s education affects themselves and their children.In study 1,on the basis of previous studies,we adapted the Parental Anxiety about Children’s Education Questionnaire.Through exploratory factor analysis of the prediction test and confirmatory factor analysis of the formal test,it formed the Parental Anxiety about Children’s Education Questionnaire,which includes three dimensions: anxiety about children’s health and children’s achievement and anxiety about their own educational ability.The results of data analysis showed that the Parental Anxiety about Children’s Education Questionnaire had been reliable and valid.In the study 2,713 parents were selected as subjects to explore whether individual characteristic trait and environment factor could affect parental anxiety about children’s education.More concretely,we wanted to study whether parental trait anxiety,marital quality,subjective family economic status and subjective sense of educational fairness could affect parental anxiety about children’s education.The results showed that trait anxiety and subjective family economic status could significantly predict the parental anxiety about children’s education.There was no significant correlation between parental subjective sense of educational fairness and the parental anxiety about children’s education.There was a significant negative correlation between the marital quality and the parental anxiety about children’s education,but regression analysis showed that after controlling the other three factors,the marital quality no longer predicted the parental anxiety about children’s education.The study 3,520 parents were selected as subjects to study the effect of the parental anxiety about children’s education on their sleep quality,and the moderating role of coping style.The results showed that,firstly,whether parents with positive coping style or negative coping style,their anxiety about children’s education could negatively predicted sleep quality,and the higher the degree of anxiety on children’seducation,the worse the sleep quality.Secondly,coping style had a significant regulatory effect,that is,under positive coping style,parental anxiety about children’s education had a small impact on parental sleep quality,but under negative coping style,it had a more negative impact on parental sleep quality.Parental anxiety on children’s education had a great influence on their sleep quality.In study 4,447 parents and 447 middle school students were selected as subjects to explore the influence of parental anxiety about children’s education on their children.The results showed that:(1)parental anxiety about children’s education could directly affect their children’s academic burnout,and the higher parental anxiety about children’s education,the higher their children’s academic burnout;(2)parental anxiety about children’s education would affect their parenting style and children’s academic self-efficacy.Parental anxiety about children’s education could significantly negatively predict the positive parenting style and their children’s academic self-efficacy.It also could positive prediction of negative parenting styles;(3)Parenting styles and children’s academic self-efficacy played a mediating role between parental anxiety about children’s education and children’s academic burnout;(4)Parental anxiety about children’s education also affected children’s academic burnout through the path of "parenting styles→children’s academic self-efficacy→children’s academic burnout".Generally speaking,parental anxiety about children’s education not only had a negative impact on themselves,but also on their children.
