This report is based on the selected chapters of the book Marketing Branding-Defending the Brand-Aggressive Strategies for Protecting Your Brand in the Online Arena written by Brian H Murray,which tells about marketing problems on the internet and methods of maintaining brands.The business text has the characteristics of preciseness,accuracy and logic,which has been strengthened by the complex sentences that are characterized by complicated structures including non-predicate verbs,parentheses,parallel phrases,postpositive attributives,subordinate clauses and so on.This report follows the adaptation theory put forward by Jef.Verschueren,which means that translators need to make corresponding adjustments to the translation according to the context and language structure of the original text,so as to make the translation smooth and easy to understand.Based on the translation practice,the author explores the complex sentences and tries to summarize proper translation strategies and methods,including restructuring,division,embedding,conversion,and comprehensive strategy.The translation strategies and methods adopted in this report can effectively deal with the problems in translating complex sentences,which can hopefully contribute to the translation of complex sentences in business texts.
