| With the progression of the “One Belt One Road” initiative, there has been a steady increase in cultural exchanges between China and Arabic countries along the route.Arab culture has its own unique connotations,so it is essential to have a deep understanding of their culture. At present, the number of Arabic literary works published in China is relatively small compared to other countries. Therefore, the translator chose to translate An Anthology of Arabic Literature edited by the Palestinian writer Tarif Khalidi for this translation practice. The book was published by the University of Edinburgh Press in 2016 and contains many historical, religious, and other literary works, and has played a beneficial role in disseminating Arab culture.Based on the translation practice of An Anthology of Arabic Literature and Nida’s functional equivalence theory, the second chapter was translated by using a variety of translation techniques, discussed in this report. The translator analyzes the typical examples encountered in the translation process from three aspects: lexical, syntactic and textual. The translation methods of literal translation, free translation, transliteration and annotation, voice conversion, addition and omission are primarily used to improve the translation quality,be faithful to the original, and provide the target audience a better reading experience.Through the translation of the source text,it is found that the translation guided by Nida’s functional equivalence theory is more in line with the intention and artistic conception of the source text and closer to the real reflection of the source readers. It has a functional dissemination significance for Arabic culture. Finally, the translator summarizes the experience and shortcomings of the report to better improve translation practices. |
