A Report On The C-E Translation Of SWUST Website News

Website news translation reflects the image,the culture,and the morality of an institution,a community,even a nation.Besides,it serves as a bond and bridge to the world in terms of politics,ideology,and culture.Southwest University of Science and Technology(SWUST)boasts a news translation group to translate the Chinese website news into English to enhance the university's international influence.The project is organized by the MTI Education Center and conducted by several teams joined by MTI students,translation supervisors,and foreign teachers.As one of the participants in the project,the author describes the translation process in which the problems are addressed from the perspective of Functionalism in this report.The translator begins the translation after understanding the purposes and requirements of the client,the source text,the timing,the medium,and the target readership.Then,the translator verifies the background information of the news by reading parallel-texts and builds a terminology bank in the news before translating.Finally,the target text is checked and edited by the supervisors and foreign teachers before submitting to the client.In this report,the translator attains the aims in two aspects from the perspective of Functionalism.For one thing,the source texts are classified based on their functions,which corresponds with translation strategies and skills.For another,case studies are made from the perspective of skopos theory on the lexical,syntactic,and cultural levels.In the end,the author concludes that the skopos theory might improve the quality and efficiency of website news translation with practical and feasible translation skills or means.In this report,the process and outcome of the translation are analyzed from the skopos theory to better the understanding of the skopos theory and the news translation,which improves the proficiency of the translator.It is anticipated that the project would be improved with higher efficiency and quality,contributing to the development of News Translation.
