In October 2019,the author delivered Chinese-Spanish simultaneous interpreting at the BFSU-UNLP/GSTI 40th Anniversary Celebration.More than 300 guests attended the event,including BFSU administrators,editor-in-chiefs of academic journals,leaders and scholars from UN,CIPG,TAC and other organizations,well-known universities at home and abroad,alumni and retired teachers from UNLP as well as faculty and students of GSTI.This report aims to apply theoretical knowledge to solve practical problems and in doing so,enable the author to enhance her practice competence under the guidance of theory.The report faithfully reproduces the task processes.Under the framework of the interpretive theory of translation,the report focuses on the triangular model proposed by the theory and analyzes various interpreting problems the author encountered during each stage of the model,i.e.comprehension,deverbalization and reformulation.In doing so,the author elaborates on the causes to these problems,for instance a lack of contextual knowledge and encyclopedic knowledge,the blind pursuit of word and sentence transcoding,a poor command of certain Spanish vocabulary,syntax rules and cultural nuances.To deal with these problems,the author discusses corresponding coping strategies,such as mobilizing contextual knowledge to grasp implicit messages.prioritizing the acquisition of knowledge about diplomacy and international organizations when speakers have an international background,conducting re-wording and re-structuring drills,building active interpreting vocabulary,etc.The author expects that the report may serve as a guidance for her future interpreting tasks and offer some takeaways for students at the early learning stage of simultaneous interpreting to conduct practices in related fields.
