A Report On The Chinese Translation Of That-Clauses In Low Carbon Shipping Towards 2050

The documents on low carbon navigation are chosen as the study object which were issued by DET NORSKE VERITAS.DET NORSKE VERITAS is a world-renowned classification society and an international authority certification organization authorized by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.In 2017,commissioned by the Norwegian Shipowners' Association,the DNV issued a series of policy documents in order to comply with the future rules of low carbon and emission reduction.The ship and environment issues involved in such documents are the focus of environmental issues of current concern in the world,and the accuracy and legibility demand of Chinese translation is very high.In the process of Chinese translation,the research on the navigation,emission,gas and water pollution and environmental protection of the ship was carried out after research.The key points with high frequency which need attention are summarized in the process of translation.Since there are many types of clauses and corresponding translation methods,it is necessary to make clear categories of these clauses so that to seek for their corresponding translation methods,which provides a general translation guidance for the translation of such clauses in the future.Since the "Low Carbon Shipping Towards 2050" is an informative text,focusing on the accurate communicative function of the content,in order to make the international community and ship owners understand and support the content and realize the importance of low-carbon navigation,it is a purposeful translation behavior,so "Skopos Theory" is used to be a guidance of the translation.This paper adopts the translation method that is used to classify the clauses in the existing text,namely,attributive clauses,apposition clauses,subject clauses,object clauses and adverbial clauses and different translation methods,such as sequential translation,reverse translation,prefix translation,post-translation,amplification,and omission,practice the norms guided by theory,study the translation of that-clause and summarize it.It can be used for reference for the translation of maritime documents.
