A Report On The Translation Of Living In A Low-carbon Society In 2050 (Chapters Two And Three)

This is a translation project report on Chapters Two and Three of Living in a Low-Carbon Society in 2050 edited by Horace Herring.The first decades of the 21 st century have witnessed not only the rapid growth of the world,but also a series of serious risks and challenges such as energy shortage,climate change and environment deterioration.The world looks forward to making joint efforts to face these challenges.And now,making the transition to low-carbon society(“LCS” hereinafter)has become an important path to our future.In such a context,the source text takes the foreign experience and practices in LCS as examples,introducing its connotation,developing path and relevant policies which provide us a new vision and picture of LCS.This translation project will offer useful theory knowledge and practice for our country to develop LCS and realize the transition in future.Meanwhile,it enriches the translator's knowledge of LCS and enhances the ability of the translator greatly.This translation project report is made up of five parts.Firstly,it introduces the project's background,significance and objectives briefly.Secondly,it depicts the type and linguistic features of the original text.Thirdly,it stresses the guiding theory of this translation practice–Skopos Theory.Fourthly,the translation difficulties are recounted: translation of long difficult sentences and terminology in translation practice.In order to convey the main contents of the source text to the target language receivers comprehensively and accurately,the translator makes full use of translation techniques such as inversion,amplification and literal translation to deal with such difficulties under the guidance of skopos theory.At last,conclusion of this translation project as well as the implication and lessons that the translator has gained is given.
