A Report On The Chinese Translation Of Complex Sentences In Noc's 2017 Annual Financial Report

Complex sentences often appear in business texts,especially in business contracts and annual reports,to convey objective and important information.Complex sentences in business texts can convey complete information and show clear logical thinking.American Northrop Grumman's 2017 Annual Report is a financial text,which is a kind of business discourse.The author encounters a large number of complex sentences which form an important part of the text in the source context during the translation of the annual report.Therefore,it is of great significance to accurately translate the complex sentences in the text.This paper is a practical report based on the translation of English complex sentences in the first part of American Northrop Grumman' s 2017 Annual Report.According to the problems encountered in the translation,the author summarizes five translation methods of English complex sentences:division,combination,shifting,linear translation and synthesis translation.Division is the process of translating difficult sentences or words into a single clause or even a single sentence.Combination is to combine the language elements in the original text,which can be several words or clauses.Shifting is to shift the language components of the original text back and forth.Linear translation means the order of the original sentence is not changed and the subject-subordinate relationship of the original sentence is maintained.The synthesis method means that when one translation method is not feasible,it needs to be combined with other translation methods.When translating different types of complex sentences,it is necessary to analyze the sentence components and semantics in order to decide which of the five translation methods is the most appropriate.By summarizing the complex sentences in this financial report,the author classifies the translation methods,and concludes related financial terms to give a reference to financial book translating successors in order that they can present more accurate and fluent translation versions and their translation versions could bring benefit to the readers.
