With the continuous development of science and technology,China's astronomy has made great progress in more than half a century. Not only has the research of astronomical scientists become increasingly in-depth,but the interest of the Chinese people to the universe also becomes increasingly intense. As a result,we not only gradually understand the domestic research on astronomy, but also pay attention to the foreign exploration and discovery of astronomy.Based on my increasing interest in astronomy,I chose the speeches of astronomy to be the material on which I carried out this simulated interpreting practice.Besides personal interests, the reason why I chose TED's speech as the interpreting material is that as an important platform for the dissemination of ideas around the world,TED has attracted more and more attention. And as an important part of TED speeches, those on astronomy have received a lot of discussion and research, but relatively little research has been done on their interpretation. In addition, the linguistic expression of TED is neither complicated nor lengthy and the points of views are clear and innovative covering a variety of topics. The interpretive theory is mature, but there are few studies on its application in consecutive interpretation of astronomy speech. Therefore,I chose TED speeches about astronomy to do my consecutive interpretation practice under the guidance of interpretive theory. This translation project consists of two parts. In the first part,I completed the practice of simulated consecutive interpretation of several TED speeches on astronomy, including: Andrew Connolly's "What's the next window into our universe?",Sara Seager's "The most search for planets beyond our solar system",Sheperd Doeleman's "Inside the black hole image that made history" and Sean Carroll's "Distant time and the hint of a multiverse".The primitive video is about 59 minutes and 15 seconds long. The second part is to write an interpretation report based on this practice. This interpreting practice report is divided into five parts.Part one is task description, including project description, brief introduction of speakers and speech content, analysis of language features, and anticipation of interpretation difficulties.Part two is process description, including pre-interpreting preparation, interpreting process, and post-interpreting reflection. The third part is the summary of the interpretive theory and the applicability of the theory in this simulated interpreting practice. In the fourth part, under the guidance of interpretive theory,I presented the case study of my practice and analyzes the problems met and the strategies applied to solve those problems. The fifth part is the summary of the experience gained and the lessons learned. It is hoped that through this interpreting practice and the writing of this report, not only my interpretation skills and abilities could be improved but the implications drawn could be delivered to those who will be engaged in the interpretation of TED speeches in the future.
