| As a report on Chinese to English simulated consecutive interpreting,this dissertation describes simulated CI task for the WeChat Open Class in Shenyang in 2015 and analyses the interpreting of the speeches delivered by three of the speakers to discuss the problems in the Chinese-to-English consecutive interpreting as well as the strategies and techniques with Interpretive Theories as the guidance.The speeches of the three speakers vary in speaking style and are featured by a high level of colloquial language with Chinese paratactic sentences composed of several clauses with few or no connectives.The speeches are also marked with sentences without subjects or objects,absence of inter-sentence relationship,redundancy,meaningless repetition and some vaguely expressed humorous words.To some extent,all of these impose difficulties on the interpreting.Assuming that Interpretive Theories can be applied to C-E CI,the author adopts different strategies and techniques to solve the problems.On one hand,in the original-script understanding process,missing subjects,objects and conjunctive words are added;on the other hand,with regard to the alienation from the source language,the author employs the following methods to re-express the original scripts by dealing with Chinese paratactic sentences with division and combination techniques in terms of de-verbalization,simplifying the redundant massages and creatively paraphrasing the humorous expressions.Through the analysis of the strategies and techniques adopted as solutions to the problems,the dissertation comes to the conclusion that Interpretive Theories are practical and effective to alleviate the pressure on interpreters’ memory as well as difficulty in understanding,so as to make the interpretation more accurate and fluent.Furthermore,the application of these interpreting strategies and techniques can shed light on later WeChat-related interpreting practices. |
