A Report On Chinese-English Translation Of The Introductory Text For Administrative Regions From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

This report is based on the "Multilingual External Communication Platform Project of China's National Conditions" conducted by the author for Global Tone Communication Technology Co.,Ltd.from September 2018 to September 2019.The project is a set of immense reference books designed and compiled by the Ministry of Civil Affairs of the People's Republic of China;In terms of the content,the project mainly involves the development introduction of six aspects for each administrative region,including the local general situation,social development,scenic spots and tourism,and so forth,with rich content and large amount of information.Through this introduction,users at home and abroad can not only learn about the development of each administrative region in China,but also explore regional culture.Therefore,the translation of such texts has become an intuitive and effective way of publicity.By reading and trying to translate the source text,and considering the purpose of this translation project,the author believes that Skopos theory is the most suitable theory to guide this translation practice.The Skopos theory gives priority to the purpose of the whole translation activity,requires the author to choose the most appropriate translation method and strategy according to the translation purpose,and thereafter proposes three translation rules:the Skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule.The main purpose of this translation practice is to introduce the development of China's administrative regions to the outside world and spread Chinese culture.In the process of translation,the author's adherence to the three rules of Skopos theory ensures that the translation can achieve intratextual and intertextual coherence at the lexical and syntactic level,which is conducive to the acceptance of the target readers and ultimately helps to spread the original Chinese culture.The report is divided into five chapters.The first chapter is a brief introduction,which introduces the background,content and significance of the report.The second chapter is the research review and guiding theory;it summarizes current progress in the research on the introductory text for administrative region and introduces the three rules of Skopos theory.The third chapter is the task description,which expounds the characteristics of the text in terms of language,content and style,and introduces the translation methods and the research process of the report.The case analysis in chapter four is the main part of this report.Under the guidance of the three rules of Skopos theory,this chapter makes a detailed analysis of the specific translation strategies adopted in the process of Chinese-English translation of the text from lexical and syntactic level.The last chapter is the conclusion.The author summarizes the guiding role of Skopos theory in the process of Chinese-English translation of introductory text for administrative region,and points out the shortcomings of this study and the direction of follow-up efforts.This report analyzes the translation difficult points in source text from two aspects of culture-loaded words and sentences,which specifically shows how the three rules of Skopos theory guide the selection of translation strategies,so as to finally get the accurate vocabulary,coherent sentences.It is hoped that the exploration of this report can provide some inspiration and strategy for the C-E translation of the introductory text for administrative region.
